I have thoroughly enjoyed learning the many various facets of teaching EFL. The grammar review has been especially helpful. As a native english speaker, it is interesting to take this close look at the complexities of our language. I feel the course has done a thorough job in laying out the grammar teaching techniques, and I have gained a confidence in the ability to teach these which I didn't have prior to taking the course. Lesson planning is another area which was well covered, and is so very important. With this and the ESA format, I feel that I have acquired some essential tools needed to become an effective teacher of not only ESL, but to also improve my current work through Literacy Volunteers. The methods and techniques offered in this course, the sections on potential problems in teaching the different language points, and the resources provided in the course materials are all quite beneficial. Overall, the course has been constructive and I feel that I have accumulated enough knowledge to move on to accumulating classroom experience. I have already put some of what I have learned into practice by improving my grammar skills. I write for newsletters and promotional materials in my current work, and my writing has improved with the grammar review offered in the TEFL course. For my next step, I will be contacting the ESL class offered at the local university and requesting to sit in on the classes taught there in order to observe the teachers and classroom dynamic, and if possible will volunteer as a teacher's aide to gain experience. From this, I may find a student requesting a tutor. Ultimately, I aspire to teach in another country.
