This unit talks about evaluation and testing. There are many ways to assess a student's language level: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. Tutorials can take place with the whole group or with individual students to check how well the students performed the tasks and whether there are any problems. Asking students to evaluate their course by the means of questionnaire or guided discussion can promote genuine interaction. It is often appropriate to give tests at different stages in a course: a placement test at the start; a diagnostic test at the beginning of a course; a periodic progress test on the work covered; some practice tests before an external examination.
