This unit dealt with challenges that an English teacher can encounter in a new cultural environment in English teaching. Strategies for establishing rapport , how to structure the first lesson , the use of warmers to make learning more interesting (study phase)and how to deal with mixed ability classes were useful. The unit highlights were the teaching of 'reluctant students' by engaging them through subtle means, how to keep fast learners busy, the use of group leaders in managing large classes and the fact that the teacher should get involved in answering questions in a participatory educational game to supply information about him/herself.
