Unit 16 was a challenging unit that covered Conditionals and Reported Speech. This chapter really made me think about how English is spoken and the rules that I follow naturally and take for granted. There are so many intricacies in the different tenses and structures that I can see why learners of English might get confused. Studying this material has made me wonder if I always follow these rules! In the chapter we learned that there are four different categories of conditionals including the 'mixed' use. A conditional is a two part sentence with an 'if' clause and a consequence clause. When reporting speech several things happed to the form of the sentence quoted. Verb tense, pronouns, time expressions and more, must be shifted back when reporting the spoken words.
