In Unit 16: Conditionals & Reported Speech, I was made aware of the many formulas of making if/then statements using a variety of tenses, and I was introduced to ways to quote someone with reported speech. There are 5 different types of if/then statements, or \"conditionals,\" which depend on whether the statement contains truths, or possible situations that will happen once the condition has been fulfilled, or present hypothetical situations, or past hypothetical situations, or a mix of past hypothetical situations with present results. This type of expression will be difficult for all levels of students, as it contains a combination of tenses and also can be confusing to express. We as teachers must understand their difficulty, and offer them activities such as role-play or completing chain stories, to practice in a safe environment. The same goes for reported speech, as it is an obscure way of expression, but with an aware, patient teacher, the lesson will be possible.
