It was very useful seeing a lesson being taught, it really showed what a difference simple things can make, like smiling and using names. The second lesson was far better because of these two simple things and also because the teacher didn't expect the class to already know what he wanted to teach them, instead he built up to it, and allowed them to get comfortable and confident by talking about things they already knew before introducing something new. The first lesson seemed very uncomfortable and I felt sorry for the learners when watching it because they weren't at ease or learning and it looked like they felt very discouraged. Building a rapport is huge in creating a good classroom atmosphere that encourages learning.
