This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
THis unit covers the importance and the methods of teaching pronunciation and phronology. I can be challenging, in part because the phonetic alphabet is a completely separate alphabet to learn for come (which can could add further confusion). Also it requires paying close attention to and being able to convey how and where various sounds and stresses physically originate as we speak. It is exceedingly difficult to produce a physical cutaway of one's self for demonstration purposes, so we must rely on tools such as over-emphasis, spoken descriptions of areas of the mouth and throat, and pictures/diagrams. Also, meaning is often conveyed as much through stress and intonation as through individual sounds. For students to gain fluency in English, they must learn these more subtle aspects of the language.
