The two videos illustrated how strongly the teacher influences the overall outcome of a lesson and students' learning. In the first lesson, the teacher's attitude and choice of words when prompting the students came off as intimidating and even condescending. The language point was not introduced and explained in ways or an order that facilitated effective learning and understanding. In the second lesson, however, off the bat the teacher was able to create an open and friendly learning environment by smiling, using the students' names, and building up to the Study phase and target language point by building upon language that the students already knew. This approach not only positively engaged the students but encouraged their continued participation and communication with the teacher and fellow students.
