This unit is all about pronunciation, phonology, stress, the phonemic symbols, and an explanation on how and where sounds are produced in the mouth. Stress is explained in detail with examples showing where to apply the stress. Information is added to explain which components of sentences usually don?t use stress. The phonetic symbols are introduced and we are taught to be able to read them. This unit focuses on productive skills- speaking and writing. Speaking and writing, while different, are both used to facilitate communication. In order to encourage the students to use productive skills in the classroom, the teacher must facilitate communication by providing interesting topics for the students to discuss. Both accuracy and fluency are important in mastering productive skills.
