This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit dealt with the phonology of English with an emphasis on stress, rhythm and intonation. It also surveyed the International Phonetic Alphabet and the place/manner of articulation for each phoneme. By far, this was the most challenging unit yet. But it was also the most interesting. All of this information was a repeat of Linguistics 403; although I quickly found out this was a much needed refresher.Learned that apart from recognizing and understanding words, pre-existing knowledge of a topic can be of great importance to gaining understanding of whatever is being read or heard. Another point learned from this unit is the importance of keeping the lesson interesting for the children. Children can lose focus real easily and so it is best to choose a topic and create tasks that will keep them interested.
