Like receptive skills, productive skills are essential for a fluent and broad understanding of the English language. Writing can often be a fairly neglected skill in TEFL classrooms around the world as often teachers do not want to sit in a silent and non-engaging classroom watching students write. It also means that mistakes will not be picked up as quickly allowing them to be ingrained into students. Like receptive skills, the best way to elicit strong productive skills from the students is to engage them with a topic they find interesting and to motivate them to find enjoyment in the production. This can be done via games or interesting content and will allow students to produce their best work and further their knowledge of the English language.
