This was an exceptionally difficult unit, as I was not familiar with the phonemic symbols at all. It was never taught at school or at university, so this was all very new to me. It was, however, interesting and is a good way to teach more advanced students pronunciation. I guess you could just learn the phonemic symbols table, like you would learn the periodic table in high school. It was also interesting to learn about the place of articulation and manner of articulation. Connected speech in my country of Australia is very common, making it difficult for international students and travellers to understand us. I often find myself really enunciating when speaking to people from different countries. Overall a very interesting and challenging unit.
