This unit provided some common sense advice about finding and applying for jobs as a teacher of English in foreign countries. It gave general tips about cultural sensitivity (ironically suggesting at the same time that 'political correctness' was a Western invention...) and also supplied links to several professional organisations one could join, and several other educational programs one could follow.In this unit I have learnt about factors that help teachers manage their classes: the amount of teacher talking time, the ways teachers can make their instructions simple and clear, interaction patterns that can be used at different stages of a lesson, the ways a teacher can use gestures or eye contact to communicate with the class, classroom arrangements as well as ways to build rapport with students.
