In this unit I learnt the advantages and disadvantages of using course books and how to use these in conjunction with the materials, either provided or designed by oneself. As we do not live in an ideal world, we will only have some authentic materials available. For everything else created materials are used. These having been designed by the teacher to supplement course books.This lesson goes over how to approach the first lesson. It suggests games and activities that can be used in the class as ice breakers and to help build rapport. It gives suggestions on how to approach mixed classes such as paring the weak students with the strong students to help them learn. It also shows ways to deal with different situations and students' use of native language.
