I was fairly aware of the ways in which to teach Vocabulary and Language Structures, however, I really benefitted from the section on Teaching Language Functions. In my teaching experience, I have focused heavily on vocabulary and grammar - spending much time emphasizing the meaning, usage, and placement of English words, as well as the grammatical forms that English words and sentences take. I have not spent enough time working with students on what types of language are appropriate in different situations. Everyday life requires us to know how to present and accept a multitude of things and situations. I will definitely begin to incorporate this new knowledge into my teaching. I especially liked the sample Boomerang lesson.
