This unit provided a good framework on aspects a teacher should consider when introducing lessons of vocabulary, grammar, and functions. In teaching vocabulary, the teacher should consider a handful of criteria â€“ including the appropriateness to the students â€“ and evaluate what students need to know about new words. Similarly, I learned the importance of considering such criteria when teaching grammatical structures â€“ what the language means and how it is used â€“ as well as language functions, or the appropriateness of usage. I also appreciated the valuable ESA lesson examples illustrating how the vocabulary, grammar, and functions can be taught to maximize student learning and usage.
