This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When meeting with students the first time, we need to warm them up especially if this is their first lesson. Rather than just diving straight into grammar and lesson content, we should perform some warmers or ice breakers to build rapport and relax the group. With existing students, they are already familiar with the lesson process so we can just get into the material. What I have learned from personal experience is that when meeting with existing students, introductions are really a bore to them so its best to avoid this unless they specifically request this. Large classes can also be handful so appointing someone to help with handouts and so on is helpful and pair work is key to get students talking.
