The unit provides an overview on what it involves in lesson planning. This includes the basic principles of lesson planning, what should be included in a lesson plan and how to plan the sequence of the lesson. Using the ESA lesson format, it helps to make practical application on what has been learned to an actual lesson plan. The task sheet is useful in achieving this. Planning a lesson is not just about knowing the techniques and basics, an effective lesson also requires the teacher to be flexible in adapting the lesson to the needs of the students and have clear learning aims for the students. The techniques and basics are guidelines while experience plays a part in effective teaching as well.
