There are many types of approaches to learning a language. One of the best is Engage, Study, Activate, ESA. It is important to engage student right away, get everyone talking and involved with a game, stories, warming them up but not really teaching. the activities in all stage depend on the level of students. In the next stage, study, we focus on how the language is constructed, working with grammar , parts of speech or maybe sentence structure. In this stage the teach teaches about something and and the students practice. Worksheets, games and drills can be used and teach gives feedback. In the last stage activate, students can be more creative with the language. the teacher demonstrates to make sure everyone knows what to do then students are uninterrupted. Activities here can include role playing, debates, story building, again depending on the level of student. In giving feedback teachers need to remember to be positive, let other student correct other students if possible, and me mindful to be culturally aware of hand and face gestures.
