When deciding what sort of content to teach students next, there are several factors that must first be evaluated. This unit focuses on the various considerations teachers must account for when making that decision. The main factor for selecting teaching material is the level of the students, which not only dictates content but also the types of teaching activities appropriate for the group. A beginner class would require the basics of grammar and minimally-functioning vocabulary that would be better taught with crosswords and word games. On the other hand, more advanced classes would do well to learn finer grammar points and more varied vocabulary through discussions and role-play scenarios. When teaching new grammar and vocabulary, students must not only learn their meaning, but also the use, forms, and pronunciation of the words but also how they interact with the other words in the sentence around them. Having a clear view of new grammar and vocabulary purposes will aid students' understanding of the material better.
