This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit presented two videos of a lesson on modal auxiliary verbs. In the first video, the teacher was very disconnected with the students. He's attitude in the beginning of class was of-putting, he did not put in a lot of effort to encourage students to participate and his ENGAGE phase was very poor. Ultimately, he struggled to teach his lesson effectively and was unable to engage his students in the learning process. In the second video, the teacher started out with a very welcoming attitude, he was encouraging to students, sought their participation in the ENGAGE phase of the lesson and tried to build a connection with the students by learning their names. Ultimately he was more effective in getting his students to participate in the class and learn the lesson. This unit was an effective summation of the lesson so far on being an effective teacher to students who are english learners. The videos stressed the important of gaining the attention of the students and keeping it to communicate the lesson topic and successful teach english.
