This learning unit focuses on receptive skills : reading and listening. It first divides the reason and motives for reading and listening in two broad categories,namely: purpose and entertainment. It then categories the skills needed for gathering the intended information in any giving text or receptive medium, ex Predictive skills, Specific information scanning, General Idea - Skimming, Detailed information and deduction from context. I have learned that in order to learn a student to comprehend receptive material, he/she need to be motivated/interested by the material and pre-teaching complex vocabulary and structure can help with comprehension.
