The first video was hard to watch! The teacher looked unhappy and disinterested in his job. He appeared to have little motivation to interact with his students, and when he did, his responses were curt. As a student, I would have been intimidated to respond orally in the Lesson #1 class. Lesson #2 was an inviting class. The teacher smiled, introduced himself, and learned the names of the students in the class. That little act of kindness and caring set a completely different tone in the class. In lesson #2, the teacher helped students access prior learning to apply it to the lesson. He modeled the type of responses that he was looking for and praised students for responding. Also, he had students working in pairs which is far less intimidating for the beginning learner. I enjoyed watching the second lesson.
