Unit six showed us the various forms of the past tense. The simple past in which an action occurred and has ended i.e. \"I went to the store yesterday\". There is the Past Continuous, which uses the past tense of the auxiliary verb To Be (was/were) and the present participle (verb plus ing). For example \"His mood was worsening\". Then of course there is the Past Perfect Continuous in which we use the past of to have (had) and the past of to be (been) to form sentences. For example, \"Before shooting the president, he had been suffering from severe depression\". The interesting thing in this unit is that as a native English speaker I use these forms all the time in my everyday speech, but would never have been able to put a name to the tense. These forms of the tense as we have seen are similar to the forms of the present tense. A very good teaching tool.
