There are multiple sources for materials to use in the class. The course book provides a balanced mix of grammar, vocabulary, and skills that is graded to the level of your students. Although course lessons and a syllabus are conveniently provided, the teacher should not stick strictly to the course book as it can get predicable for the students. The teacher may also create materials, for which they are able to grade to the level of the students. Created materials may offer a good change from the course work an may be more interesting for the students. Additionally, a teacher can use authentic materials. These are materials that a native speaker would typically hear or read such as the news, an interview, menu, or map. Since these materials are authentically created, the teacher needs to choose a good fit and use for the students' level. They can instill confidence in students to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom.
