This unit is about receptive skills which include reading and listening. They can either be used for a purpose or for entertainment. The different skills needed for understanding are divided in five categories which were all explained. To help the students with eventual difficulties, the teacher must create interest with engaging topics and various types of material and consider the language. Pre-teach complex vocabulary or use unauthentic texts (better suited for the students' level) are often the best way to give the students confidence as they are still learning new vocabulary. Proper techniques used to approach comprehension tasks as well as an example of a patchwork lesson were then shared.
