Conditional sentences contain the work if and refer to past, present, or future possibilities. There are five main conditions when teaching English. They include zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional, third conditional, and mixed conditional. Each conditional has its own grammar rules including tense and verb agreement. The lesson also introduces reported speech which is repeating or reporting what another person says. Tense is also very important in learning the mechanics of reported speech. Direct speech can be reported in the present tense or past tense depending on if the direct speech is occuring currently. Direct questions can be turned into reported speech by keeping the question word and changing the tense of the verb to past tense. The reporting verb ask or say also give clues as to the tense of the reported speech.
