Thus far, this has been the most difficult unit. Phonology, and in particular the phonemic alphabet is a topic commonly left out in English classes being taught to native English speakers at a young age. Growing up, I had always seen the phonemic alphabet in the dictionary, but overlooked it since I didn't see the need for it, and I was never taught how to use it. Seeing it and trying to understand its use, along with the other concepts of articulation is something new to me, but definitely something I will try my best to understand in order to help my students take their language skills to another level.
