In this unit we discussed methods for teaching the two receptive language skills, reading and listening. While these are both receptive skills, they are very different, in that reading is permanently present on paper or other forms, so a student can take their time with it and, if needed, read thing multiple times. Listening only happens once, so it is not really permanent in the same way as reading. We also studied various methods for teaching receptive skills, and strategies for dealing with some of the problems that teaching receptive skills may entail. We also reinforced and reviewed some aspects of lesson planning by viewing some example lessons for teaching receptive skills. I feel that I have learned more about lesson planning from this unit, and gained some valuable insights into methods for teaching receptive skills.
