When it comes to teaching a class, the coursebook can be fairly important. If given the option as the teacher to choose the coursebook, the book should be relevant to the class, it should be available, the appearance of the book should attract students, the level of difficulty should fit the class and the topics should fit the level of the students. In any case, if there is material that should be covered and is not covered in the book, it is the teacher's job to supplement/replace/adapt to cover that/those topics. Coursebooks should not be used through the whole class. Lesson materials are also very important for activities.
