In this unit I learned about the rules, forms, and usages for modal auxiliary verbs, the passive voice, and relative clauses. Modal auxiliary verbs are used to express such ideas as obligation, probability, and ability. Some examples of modals are can, could, should, and must. Modals do not change form according to person, but do have changes based on tense. The passive voice used most frequently when it is not known, not important, or we do not want to say who performs an action. The different forms of passive voice sentences are constructed through the combination of the auxiliary verb 'be' and the past participle. Tense for passive voice sentences is expressed through the tense of the auxiliary 'be'. There are three types of relative clauses: intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable. Relative clauses in general consist of a verb and one or two particles (preposition, adverb, or preposition and adverb). They are used like normal, single-word verbs.
