This lesson is an overview of what a should be expected of both a good student and teacher. The levels of language ability are covered ranging from Beginner level to Advanced speakers. I believe this chapter aided me in setting a goal for the type of instructor that I should strive to be as well as the type of student that I want to encourage or promote in my classroom. As a teacher, it is also beneficial to remember the motivations behind students' learning. Knowing a student's motivation can aid in method of teaching and also knowing how to encourage the student appropriately if he or she becomes unmotivated or discouraged. Along with this, age of one's students is critical in knowing how to approach a lesson in a way that is most beneficial for the individuals involved. Overall, this chapter served to encourage active thinking during the language teaching process: awareness of one's self as an instructor and the student in motivation, language experience, and ability.
