Unit 9 focuses on Planning Lessons, and states that there are three important functions for writing lesson plans: the act of writing lesson plans is an aid to planning, it creates a working document, and it allows you to have a record of each of your lessons. Basic principles of planning lessons are: keep it simple, do not try to script or over control the lesson, write out the structure of the lesson plan and maintain that structure, write the anticipated time for each activity, check for a balance of skills, and keep the lesson flexible as well as open to adaptation. In addition, there are several aspects that need to be included in a lesson plan, such as learner objectives, personal aims, language points, teaching aids, and ESA phases. This unit also includes two fully completed lesson plans. One is designed for teaching beginner students who are learning about animal vocabularies, and the second is designed for teaching about the present perfect simple tense.
