The test that I have been hearing a lot about when I started to apply for jobs is the Cambridge Assessment. Many of the teaching jobs I was looking at required that my teaching lessons would prepare their students for the test. This unit made me realize that some students have a long-term goal of going to school in an English speaking country. That means my English class is a vital building block for their success. I intend to explore this with my students when I ask their motive to learn English. Do they intend to continue their schooling abroad? I was unaware that international students had to pass an English exam in order to be accepted in an overseas university. In my college, we had a lot of foreign exchange students. We even had a residence called the I-House (International House). This functioned as dorms, but for international students. Native students, like myself were even able to go into the residence to socialize with other international students.
