The future perfect is used to indicate that an action will be completed by a certain time in the future, e.g. They will have completed their work by noon tomorrow. Students often confuse this with future perfect continuous which indicates how long something will have continued by a certain time, e.g. Tomorrow, they will have been working for ten hours altogether. Present simple and present continuous play out in the present tense with suggestions of happenings in the future. Teachers need to be aware of all these potential pitfalls and have many activities available to clarify the differences.
