Unit 14 talks about the use of coursebooks, authentic and created materials. It seems like an easy chapter but i do feel like it is extremely important to take note of all the different ways we can teach our students. It is important as a teacher to capture the children's interest so they can learn as much as they can. For example, i have a student that is extremely interested in cars, and cartoon characters (spiderman). I used Letterland phonics book to help him pronounce different alphabets, and then used pictures of cars and spiderman to help him understand the material. This unit focused on the use of course books, authentic material and teacher generated activities in the classroom. To some degree, they all have advantages. Course books are tried and proven and allows students to visualize the natural progression of lessons. Authentic material gives the students opportunities to encounter real life uses of the language and teacher created activities target the exact needs of a specific group of students. I am not very sure how the Boomerang ESA is connected to this unit and found the text gave very little support for success in this test.
