Interesting topic except for the phonetic alphabet. Seriously, if you don't recommend using the phonetic alphabet to teach students, why would you teach it to us? In the day of modern technology and websites that can read words for you, I don't think that it is necessary to learn the phonetic alphabet. And if you are going to teach it to us, teach it all the way and not just in the context of English. I look forward to seeing this resolved in future versions of the class. This chapter introduces IPA, which is very useful for everything but practical classroom usage. It is very useful for a native speaker to specifically parse out the sounds being made, but most foreign students aren't going to take the time to learn it, which is disheartening. The section on where sounds are made and how is very useful for teaching pronunciation though it might require knowledge of all those terms in the student's native language for expedient explanation.
