There are two types of course books and lesson materials, these includes authentic materials and created materials. Examples of authentic materials are magazines, poems, songs and newspaper and examples of created materials are crossword puzzles, flashcards and gap filled activities. Some course books include; student book, workbook, cassettes and teacher’s books. Some advantages of using course books are; it is usually attractive and appealing to the eyes which will keep the student’s attention and the teachers book provides many good ideas for inexperienced teachers. Course books also comes with its disadvantages, course books dictate what it is to be taught, they can become predictable and boring for the students and they may not fit specific needs and interest of all the class members. When choosing a course book, teachers should consider its price, availability, topics that it covers and how it matches the syllabus.
