Classroom management can make or break the overall learning environment for both the student and the teacher. A teacher can only inspire confidence if and when they have earned the attention and respect of each student. Classroom management is a fine line drawn between maintaining discipline and also achieving a friendly and relaxed manner. TTT and STT are, in my opinion, the key factors in establishing the right environment. TTT needs to be kept to setting the tone, explaining a lesson and instructions. STT needs to be at least 505 of the time, if not more, and thus provides important feedback for the teacher to hear, or not hear, who is understanding and who might be struggling. TTT should be less than 50%, and I try to make it considerably less. The less TTT and the more STT will make a world of difference in the environment, comfort level of the students, seeing who is grasping material and who might be unsure.
