This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit talks in depth about the often neglected subject of pronunciation. This section primarily revolves around the emphasizing of words and syllables, the phonetic alphabet, the different parts of your body that controls speech, and how to teach all of this in a classroom. From this unit, I learned the rules of intonation and just how complex the concept can be. I also learned that this is specifically separate from stress, as stress focuses on words and intonation is generally for an entire sentence pertaining to a conversation. This section closed up by detailing the parts of your mouth that are pivotal in pronunciation. Here, I learned about the parts of the mouth known as “The Speech Organs†and when and how they are used in speaking. I did also learn ways to teach this in the classroom, including peer dictation or using your own mouth to over-emphasize parts of a word.
