Unit 3 expounds on teaching methods and techniques.Teaching learners who are speakers of other langauges is quite a lofty task and so warrants a particular methodlogy and skill.This chapter provides methodologies that could be used to effectively address these issues.There exist several approaches such as task based learning,communicative language teaching,community language learning,the silent way,suggestopaedia,the lexical approach and the ESA.The ESA seems to be the best method as was put forward by JEREMY HARMER.This approach is known as Engage -study and activate.I found this unit to be very interesting, in that I have been aware of pronunciation tools but have not personally known how to use them. The phonemic alphabet, in particular, is a fascinating tool for understanding pronunciation of new words. Had a French version of this been available to me when I was studying French in France, I may have learned how to correctly make the sounds more quickly. While not the only tool for English teachers, I can see how if can be a great adjunct. I'm also intrigued that pronunciation is one of an English learners highest priorities.
