This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was a little tougher for me than the other units. Dealing with phonetics and pronunciation can be difficult for teachers because we speak without thinking. I also found the lean towards British English a little difficult at times because British and American English have different pronunciations of some words. This unit covers how the mouth and tongue are used during speech as well as how the international phonemic alphabet can be used for students. I know when I begin to teach students in Mexico, my name will be difficult to say because oftentimes Spanish speakers do not pronounce the /h/ sound and my name is Hannah. This unit also points how how many words sound the same but are spelled differently. I thought the inclusion of the Shaw poem really helps native speakers of English to remember just how complicated and frustrating our language can be at times.
