This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 13 was a challenging lesson over the ins and outs of pronunciation. This was a great unit that delved into a topic often ignored by language teachers because of the high difficulty level in teaching it. Not only did I learn helpful methods in teaching about pronunciation such as diagrams of the mouth, but I also learned about the physical and anatomical aspects of pronunciation that I cannot ignore. Overall, I realized that pronunciation is an integral part of teaching English as a second language. This unit focuses primarily on methods of establishing rapport between teachers and students in the ESL classroom context. In addition to covering discipline, the lesson also provided helpful information regarding classroom arrangements and engaging with students. I found the sections on teacher talk time and student talk time particularly useful because I believe it's difficult to establish a balance between the two. From my experience, it is far too easy for teachers to talk too much in the classroom.
