This unit talks about advantages and disadvantages for a teacher using course material vs created and authentic material. I like the discussion that neither is right or wrong, that it depends on you as a teacher and what suits your style. Personally, I think that for me being an inexperienced teacher, the use of course material would be a fantastic tool and a guide to help me stay on track and make sure I have cover what needs covering. When planning lessons, I would also look at each part to see if I could exchange, adjust and supplement the material to suit the students level language level, interest, age and cultural background so it all makes sense in their everyday life. I am currently volunteering in a class for former refugees and a lot of the language skills this group needs at present is to get the language to manage in their new country with a new culture.
