Unit 12 discusses the teaching of the productive skills, â€˜speaking and writingâ€™ and their differences. Writing requires more accuracy and speaking requires more fluency. While accuracy activities are concentrated on producing correct language, fluency activities are concentrated on letting students experiment and be creative with the language. Nevertheless, both accuracy and fluency are equally important to learning a language. The unit also discussed speaking activities in the classroom when guided or controlled by the teacher, some of the reasons students are reluctant to speak in the classroom coupled with techniques to help remedy these barriers. The unit also discussed teaching creative writing to include handwriting, spelling, layout, and punctuation, and lastly, the unit discussed the merits of using games in the classroom for language training.
