I now have a better understanding of the roles both a teacher and a student play in a class setting. There's a great deal of diversity with regards to what kinds of student may be present in a class, an important point to keep in mind. Depending on the age or the language ability of the learner, the approach to teaching required would seem to vary a great deal. Being introduced to the various roles a teacher must play was also enlightening. Based on what I read, I reflected on my own experiences as a learner in a foreign language class. I was able to draw parallels between what I read as being indicative of a good teacher, and teachers that I personally felt were beneficial to my learning environment. I could see in greater context now what roles my teachers played and when, and hopefully I'll be able to emulate the better examples I witnessed.
