Testing students probably very much depends on the character of their studies - language school, private lessons etc. In my experience, testing brings along motivation. So even in private lessons, it might be good to set a goal of passing a test, suited to the level of the student. Our children get little progress tests all the time, no big deal, very casual. I worked at a school with almost no testing at all.. Both have pros and cons, but in general testing is helpful, not only for the teacher but for students' motivation.Vocabulary, grammar and functions poses a real challenge for me. I seem to inherently know how to use and write the English language but I really struggle with the rules and then with having to teach them. I think being able to go back and review the 'engage, study, activate' sections of this unit will be useful in the future. I also see that it is important to first know your students and what level they might fit in to when preparing a lesson plan. I feel this is something that will take time to be more confident with.
