Unit 12 introduces reasons and techniques for teaching speaking and writing in the TEFL classroom. In my previous teaching experience speaking has rarely been emphasized, so Unit 12 was especially enlightening as to the reasons and justifications for teaching speaking, especially fluency (as opposed to emphasizing only accuracy). The suggested fluency-based creative communication ideas were of particular interest. In my current teaching situation, writing is newly-emphasized but focuses only on memorizing and reproducing predetermined answers. The information in lesson 12 will help me encourage greater creativity and flexibility, though a little more information on layout and a few basic writing lesson suggestions (content, etc.) would have been appreciated! This is a category that I will look into in greater detail on my own.
