While I was working through this unit, I learnt simple ways to categorise ways to use the past tense and how to clearly distinguish the sentences into them. By using the verb to decide whether it is continuous or perfect and seeing the relationship with the auxiliary verb to see whether it could be classed as simple or perfect, after to combine the categories if needed. For example, 'James had ran' 'ran' being a irregular past verb and 'had' would be past perfect tense.This unit looks at the different potential types of ESL classes that may be taught ranging from various levels of beginners, to one-on-one classes, to children, or even business english classes. This unit provided different approaches and methods for teaching these distinct classes. What I found particularly useful, especially for teaching business english, is the use of a needs analysis survey which delineates each students goals as well as the groups collective goals.
