This unite discusses the importance of the productive skills (writing and speaking). Writing is often an ignored skill, especially as a homework assignment, leading it to be an undeveloped skill and one that should be given extra attention to. The lesson also discusses the difference of accuracy activities such as language drilling which is controlled by the teacher to produce accuracy reproduction of the language and fluency activities such as a debate which involves language creativity. This unit describes the different phases that are most effective to teaching productive skills using examples. Although writing is a less appreciated skill, as noted in this unit, it is a critical part of language learning since it incorporates both thinking in the new language and then applying grammatical and vocabulary knowledge.
